Thanks for helping my recovery

Danelle BallengeeMoab, Utah

It has been almost a year since my accident. I want to take a moment to thank the Summit County community for all their support and assistance this past year. This is a truly a wonderful community, and I am so grateful for the outpouring of support and assistance I’ve had during my recovery. Every day I think about how lucky I am to have survived and be rescued – I was given a second chance! When I was stuck out there, I thought most about the value of friends and family. This has only been reiterated by the support of our wonderful community. Thank you to everyone who visited, called and sent cards when I was in the hospital. Thank you to all those who helped to make life in a wheelchair not-so-bad by helping with errands and rehab. Also thanks to those who assisted and inspired me to get back out there doing what I love to do by helping me re-learn how walk and then run again. Thanks to all those who made donations to help with my medical bills and, in particular, to Pam Minard and the team that organized the fundraiser. This has really helped me out. And thank you to Devon O’Neil and the Summit Daily News, who did a great job telling the story like it really happened and keeping posts on my rehab. There are not words enough to express my gratitude to everyone. My life has changed a lot since the accident and even though it’s different, it’s just as enriching as I now have a new appreciation. I’m happy to say that Taz and I are now back out on the trails, walking or jogging, nearly everyday – just enjoying being out there. I’m currently in Moab, where I’m keeping my toes warm and running a new business (a diner called Milt’s) which is a new and exciting ‘adventure’ for me. I visit Summit Cty almost weekly and I plan to be back more permanently in the near future. Thanks again to our wonderful community and happy holidays!
