Thanks for ‘Hidden’ and coming to my husband’s rescue

Janny and Dick Krynen

My name is Janny Krynen and I was recently featured in your March 20 paper as the lady of The Holocaust, as told from a Dutch perspective. I would like to thank Leslie Brefeld for the nice article and Mark Fox for a great picture. My husband Dick and I were invited to the champagne opening by Christopher Williard, author of “Hidden,” who also directed this stark play. Our thanks to him.Ten minutes into the play, Dick suddenly said, “I don’t feel good.” To my horror, he did not seem to be breathing, I could not feel a pulse, but the most terrifying thing was, his eyes were wide open.I grabbed his face and creid. The lady behind me asked if htere was something wrong, and I am not sure whether I sayid yes. I was crying so hard. I wast told four doctors in the audience came to our rescue, as well as some of our friends, and the ambulance was called. After what was for me an unbelievably long time, I heard those wonderful words: We’ve got a pulse.Words cannot describe my heartfelt thanks to all of these fantastic people. If i would know their names, I would thank everyone personally but I hope they know how I feel.As a footnote, I may add that before the show started, Dick was asked many times about wy he was hiding in my mother’s house in Amdsterdam when he was not a Jew. His reply was that he was an American citizen, and that the Germans hated them as much as any Jew. Last but not least, I would like to thank the wonderful actress Diane Gadomski and her husband Bob, who came after to the play to the hospital and stayed with me and took me home, while Dick went for more tests to Denver.
