Thanks to Nancy Ring

Sylvia Conway

I would like to publicly say thanks to Nancy Ring of the Summit County Animal Shelter. Nancy’s people are organizing a fundraiser/party at the Silverthorne Pavilion to help Nancy with her medical bills. It will be on Nov. 15 from 1-5 p.m., with wonderful music, silent auction and fun. I appreciate Nancy so much for her work with the shelter, and her efforts to raise the consciousness level of all of us concerning animal welfare.

A short anecdote about Nancy: Several years ago I was driving up Peak One Blvd. behind the Summit County Community and Senior Center, and saw a magnificent bay horse loose on the road. He was fired up with energy from his new freedom, and a small crowd had gathered. By the time I got out of my car, a young man had gotten a rope around his neck, and the horse was calming down a little. I heard onlookers in the crowd saying things like “Doesn’t that horse look like Nancy Ring’s?” “Is that Nancy’s horse?”

Well, yes, it was Coby, who had gotten loose in Bill’s Ranch and gone looking for Nancy, who had ridden him to the shelter in the past. So even the animal control director was not exempt from “animal at large”.

I hope to see a huge turnout on the 15th, please come and show your appreciation to Nancy for all the wonderful, caring work she does.
