The holidays are overrated

The holidays are overrated – especially if you work and live in Eagle County. For the last three weeks, the resorts have been awash in tourists.

They’ve poached your lines while you’ve been scrubbing dishes and puked in the corner of your bar. They’ve filled up the buses in the morning and they’ve sucked all the cash out of the WestStar ATM in Vail Village.

They’ve dragged crying children to your ski-school class, stepped on your toes as you’ve cleared tables and been rude, demanding creatures when you were on the third shift of the day.

They’ve also spent boatloads of cash, some of which made it into your checking account.

Now that they’re gone, it’s time for you to think about going too.

Not leaving for good, mind you – but becoming a tourist yourself. Taking your own vacation. Heading down the road to some other place and having someone else wait the tables for awhile.

After all, you’ve earned it.

Sure, you could just chill out at home for a week, hit the local hills hard and finally get to that pile of laundry in the corner of your room.

But the reality is that if anyone needs a vacation, it’s you, and the rest of the locals who have just suffered through the mayhem of a Vail Christmas.
