‘The Mouse That Roared’ through SMS

Visit Grand Fenwick, a small and peaceful country that finds itself in a very powerful position in the play “The Mouse That Roared.”

After declaring war on America because of a dispute over the sale of wine, Grand Fenwick captures the feared “Q-Bomb” and ends up negotiating peace throughout the world. A thoughtful comedy, the play is the story of an underdog country that somehow comes out on top.

Summit Middle School will present two showings – on Friday and Saturday – at the school auditorium. Tickets are $4 for students and seniors and $5 for adults. The curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. both nights.

“It’s funny and entertaining,” says Stephen Champion, who plays Tully Bascom, the clueless warrior sent to wage war on America.

His co-star, Erica Aumand, plays the stuck-up duchess, Gloriana the Twelfth, who evolves into a kinder ruler by the end of the play.

“I like her at the end of the play, when she’s more down to earth,” Aumand says of her character. “I don’t think that fondly of her in the beginning, when she thinks she’s better than everyone else.”

Don’t underestimate Grand Fenwick and don’t underestimate this cast of about 20 middle schoolers as they tell the story of “The Mouse That Roared.”

“It’s funny, and we have a great time on stage,” Aumand says.
