Leadville resident John Glavinick said he has been doing art his whole life. As a child, while other kids were drawing stick figures, he said he was interested in more realistic drawings.Glavinick grew up in Leadville and spent a brief period of time living in Denver before coming back to his hometown. He said that while in the city, he lived with some Native Americans, which spawned his appreciation for the culture and art. Glavinick said he loves to portray the West and nature in his work. What are your dreams/what would you like to do with your art?I’d like to create new ideas that no one has ever seen – something new. And I love the reaction of people and the high interest they have.

What does art give you/why do you do it?It gives me a feel of freedom, relaxation and enjoyment and it gives me something to look forward to every day. What do you try to convey through your art?Myself, knowing that I can do that or thinking, ‘Hey, I can do that.”

What has been your biggest challenge, and how do you deal with it?People that don’t realize how much time and money goes into your art. And that’s why the price is high. What are you most proud of regarding your art?Myself, when I am totally done and 100 percent satisfied with it. And also knowing the person buying it feels the same.

How do you stay fresh/motivated?I am always out in the outdoors and there is a big window out there. A person needs to open their heart and eyes to that big world we all live in. It’s full of art and ideas. What do you do when you’re not making art?Fishing, hiking, camping, hunting, mountain biking (and) spending time with friends and my dogs.
