The Red, White and Blue Fire Protection District nails down ballot language for May 6 election

The Red, White and Blue Fire Protection District’s Board has approved ballot language for two key issues scheduled for a vote May 6.
The first proposal looks to increase the district’s tax haul to $6.4 million annually by bringing the mill levy up to 13 mills from 9 mills.
Fire officials said for a $1 million home, the mill levy increase could translate to an additional $260 a year in property taxes.
The second ballot initiative seeks to remove the state-imposed 5.25% revenue increase cap, allowing more flexibility to meet ongoing financial needs and continue providing service.
“As our community continually faces the very real threats of wildfires and other large-scale emergencies in our mountain community, it’s essential that we remain proactive and prepared,” said Austyn Dineen, Red White and Blue’s board chair. “By ensuring that the district is properly funded, Issues A and B will continue to provide the resources, training, and services necessary to keep our families, homes, and businesses safe.”
All registered voters within the fire district will receive a mail-in ballot that will be sent out the week of April 13 and can be returned by mail or dropped off at the fire station at 316 North Main St. Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on May 6.
