Thomas P Neils: My friend Bud Nicholson

I was fortunate to spend time over the years with Bud Nicholson and an appropriate amount of evenings at the Old Dillon Inn. I was always meeting new friends, having just the best days and greatly enjoying our fun times together.

Each time we were together at the ODI, customers would want to meet “the owner.” When not too busy, Bud would be gracious to stop work and speak with them or join them at their table. It was always a real treat to have Bud join your table and add to the fun of the evening. He had so many great stories and so many friends around the county and the entire country.

Bud had the ability to make regular locals feel like celebrities and make celebrities feel like a local and at home. Most all soon found some great Mexican food, a talk with Bud and have a great place that welcomed them back.

Bud supported and sponsored many great ODI softball teams and other sports around the county. He was always a great contributor over the years to the various causes, needs, organizations and personal requests. He hosted a great many events at the Old Dillon Inn. Decades of birthdays, anniversaries, reunions and unfortunately far too many funeral receptions took place at the ODI with Bud as the quiet provider.

Bud brought us many great musicians and bands to the county at the Old Dillon Inn. From successful artists to up-and-coming locals, he enjoyed providing us all with diverse and unique talent and the fun and excitement of live music.

I will always remember Bud and the years of great friendship and feel very lucky to have met him and so many people and friends through both he and Trish.
