Three Summit County physicians receive awards

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

On Nov. 19, three physicians from High Country Health Care/Summit OB/GYN received The Summit Foundation Community Collaboration Award for their contribution to Free Surgery Day on June 13, at Peak One Surgery Center in Frisco. The High Country Health Care physicians – Rochelle Bernstein, Javier Gutierrez, and Amy Tomlinson – along with seven other physicians and over 15 medical professionals, collaborated to provide surgeries to patients who could otherwise not afford it. Bernstein, Gutierrez and Tomlinson, with assistance from Heather Boucher, CNM, performed a two-hour hysterectomy that day.

Patients for Free Surgery Day were selected through the Summit Community Care Clinic and were chosen based on how much of an impact the surgery would have on their daily lives. For most of the 13 patients, the surgeries were life altering, allowing them to get back into normal routines and for many, back to work.

High Country Health Care Summit OB/GYN is comprised of four physicians, Bernstein, Gutierrez, Tomlinson and, most recently, Dr. Antonio Barbera who specializes in maternal fetal medicine – high-risk patients. Boucher is a certified nurse midwife. They are located in Frisco at the Medical Office Building and also see patients in Buena Vista. Visit high
