timeforcake: Lawn-mowing robot & links

Erin Pheilspecial to the daily

It’s not quite the same in Summit County, but across much of the country, the go-to character-building exercise for children is the dreaded mowing of the lawn. And across the country, all summer long, kids rebel against having their characters built, finding ingenious excuses for why they can’t push something around the backyard on the weekends.Kids, meet the Husqvarna Automower. If you mow the lawn enough over the years, you might be able to afford one of these so you don’t have to mow the lawn anymore. (To afford it though, you might need a very, very big lawn and your parents will need to be very, very good tippers.)The Husqvarna Automower is a solar-powered, hybrid electric auto lawn mower that cuts your lawn without your participation, re-docks when its batteries are running low, can mow during a rainstorm and brings us that much closer to a future where robots are our slaves. When you purchase it, a technician comes and teaches it the contours of your yard. After that, it pretty runs on autopilot, though we can’t rule out the possibility that it’ll join the rest when robots rise up and challenge their human oppressors. As I alluded to just a moment ago: it’s pricey. However, even with an MSRP of $2,3995 for the short-range model (.5 acres on one charge), just think of all the gasoline and the time saved. And remember, you’re going to be the first on the block with a subservient robot pod that cuts the grass for you. That’s worth a lot, right?

1) http://tinyurl.com/76fpb2k – Ever want to broadcast how crappy someone has parked a car? There’s an app for that. No really, there is an app for that. Unfortunately, the app currently only targets bad parkers in Russia. Regardless, this is still a quick and entertaining read. What do you think? Should bad parkers be subjected to a touch of public humiliation?2) http://bit.ly/JB1lbV – Too lazy or tired or filled with ennui or sick to walk your dog or play fetch? Also an RC enthusiast? Well now, here’s your new best friend to exercise your old best friend. It’s the Go-Go Dog Pal RC Toy. It’s $300. And it’s got two high-torque electric motors, four-wheel drive and double suspension (because not everyone has lawns that are always perfectly manicured by the Husqvarna Automower).erin pheil is the owner of timeforcake creative media – the Web Design company voted #1 in Best of Summit.
