Todd Ackerman: Much-needed help for a beloved dog

I am writing to express a gratitude I can hardly put into words. My best friend Bluedog has had a rough fall. Blue is a very athletic 10-year-old mutt with bright blue eyes. This September he started limping, and when he had not improved by October I took him in to Breckenridge Animal Clinic. He was x-rayed and Dr. Ed Hastain diagnosed a partial ACL tear. We limited his activities, mostly no playing ball. But alas on the follow up visit Dr. Ed could tell Blue had a fully torn ACL, and surgery would be necessary.

I had been saving for this event but with my wife out of work since August finances are tight. We scheduled surgery for Nov. 2 but I did not know how I would afford it. The staff at BAC suggested I reach out to the League for Animals and People of the Summit for help. I submitted an application with my tax documents and proof I work in Summit County. I was so surprised and grateful to receive a call within days that LAPS would make a donation to BAC on Blue’s behalf. This made the surgery possible and I could still pay my rent. The relief LAPS provided meant Blue could get the care he needed.

I cannot thanks LAPS enough. Now two weeks later Blue says he can play ball again, but he has to heal a bit longer. Dr. Ed Hastain and his loving staff saved Blue’s fun and ball playing. LAPS made it possible! Blue and I can’t thank everyone enough.
