Tom Jones: Mayfield a wealth of ideas
Like Paul Sanders (“Mayfield an actor,” Letters, March 5) I have known, listened to and read Rich Mayfield for about 20 years. While Mayfield’s greatest attribute may be ideological consistency, Mr. Sanders paints him as a malleable, attention-craving parrot of public opinion. The volume of mail in this newspaper opposing Mayfield’s views is exhibit No. 1 to the contrary; Mr. Sanders’s own illogical indictment of Mayfield as a “communist” is No. 2.
Mayfield offers a rich trove of ideas on which to base reasoned counter-arguments. Personal attacks, on the other hand, constitute the last refuge of a lazy intellect that can’t debate and win on the merits.
