Tony Flitcraft: Dissent is crucial

Alex Miller’s vilifying local tea parties is worrisome (Opinion, Sept. 11). Tea parties are occurring nation-wide signifying opposition to President Obama’s extravagant policies. Dissent was patriotic during the Bush administration; it’s more so today.

There’s something fundamentally wrong, pleasing as it sounds, with my gaining the right to reach into your pocket book to get the money I need to pay my medical bills. It seems I already have that right to pay my mortgage and credit card bill, too. If followed to its logical conclusion, your pocket will be empty, and we’ll all be pocket pickers, wondering who will pay our bills.

Reducing existing mandates, price controls, regulations, offered by Republicans and blocked by Democrats, would put health care within reach of everybody leaving enough left over to serve the destitute.
