Many people believe babies delivered in the United States from illegal aliens – oops, “undocumented residents” – are automatically US citizens according to the Constitution. Not necessarily so. The 14th amendment reads in part, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the State wherein they reside.”

Babies delivered in the United States from visiting foreign diplomats, business people, vacationers, students, etc. are not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and are not necessarily automatic US citizens.

Please everybody, including our elected and appointed officials who must swear allegiance to the Constitution before accepting office, read it. It is, or used to be, the law of the land.
