Trip to Europe raises more than $26,000 for Breckenridge Music Festival
Thirty-six travelers explored the great rivers of Europe while raising more than $26,000 for the Breckenridge Music Festival (BMF).
Applause!, the fundraising arm of the BMF, organized the trip. Travelers explored numerous countries by boat, starting their 12-day adventure in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, into an extensive tour of Germany including Cologne, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Passau, among many other stops. Some continued on to Austria for time in Melk and Vienna before returning state-side. These few spent time near the home of BMF artistic advisor David Danzmayr, whose inaugural season this past summer was a resounding success.
“The entire Great Rivers of Europe trip traveling with friends was amazing, but for music, Vienna was the highlight,” said BMF Board chair Laura Dziedzic. “Known as ‘the city of music,’ we were surrounded by stunning classical music performed in some of the world’s finest halls. What an opportunity to share with fellow enthusiasts while supporting an organization we love.”
The Breckenridge Music Festival wishes to thank co-chairs Diana Dettmering and Sue Nelson for leading the first-time effort as well as all of the travelers who reported having an excellent experience aboard a stunning boat with knowledgeable tour guides and delicious food.
“We are thrilled with the experience we had cruising the rivers of Europe with other Summit County residents and music-lovers, and are really looking forward to the next trip,” said group leader Diana Dettmering.
Applause!, the fundraising arm of the Breckenridge Music Festival, hosts a variety of year-round parties and functions to support the BMF. Through these events, Applause! strives to reach out to the Summit County community and raise a substantial portion of the annual BMF contributed revenue budget at the same time. Everyone is invited to join and participate. For more information please contact Maggie Vander Pol at the Breckenridge Music Festival office at (970) 453-9142 or firstname.lastname@example.org. A series of winter community gatherings, called Bon Appetit, is currently being scheduled. More information will soon be available online at breckenridgemusicfestival.com.
ABOUT BRECKENRIDGE MUSIC FESTIVAL
The mission of the Breckenridge Music Festival (BMF) is to provide premier musical and related arts experiences on a year-round basis in Summit County. The organization’s core program is a five-week summer festival, which includes 30 to 35 concert events in Breckenridge’s Riverwalk Center, with attendance averaging 10,000 Summit County visitors and residents each summer season. A resident ensemble of 40 professional musicians present 10 main stage Orchestra Series concerts and five Tuesday Series concerts of chamber music at the Riverwalk Center. Audiences can choose from a variety of creative programs, including concerts honoring great orchestra and chamber music traditions from the 18th to 19th century to performances specifically curated to celebrate mountain culture and the music of our time.
Resident musicians also perform 10 summer Champagne Series concerts of chamber music hosted in private homes around Breckenridge and Summit County. With receptions, conversation and dessert surrounding each performance, Champagne Series Concerts create community between audiences, supporters and the artists of the Breckenridge Music Festival, and add approximately 300 attendees to summer audiences.
Also at the Riverwalk Center, the Blue River Series brings in national touring acts to explore the wide world of music, including jazz, country and western, folk Americana, reggae and bluegrass.
The Encore Winter Series concerts presents small-format performances by returning summer artists and featured regional and national performers in intimate venues around the county, including Father Dyer in Breckenridge and the Finkel Auditorium of Colorado Mountain College Summit Campus. Total winter audiences average 800 attendees.
The BMF’s education and community engagement program shares the gift of music with the next generation of Summit County music lovers and their families. In-school performances designed especially for children introduce youngsters to the pleasures of music of all kinds. For students already involved in music, workshops and master classes with visiting artists add to the developmental resources available locally. The annual Family Concert offers a friendly introduction to the orchestra free-of-charge to the public. The 2015 “Peter and the Wolf” Family Concert was hugely successful with over 800 people in attendance. The BMF also partners with the Breckenridge Rec Center in a “Music Mania” week at the summer camp, leading up to the Family Concert. Overall, the BMF’s education and community engagement programs serve as many as 4,700 Summit, Lake and Park County students each year.
