Troop Packages are on their way

LIz Wickert
Rotary Club of Summit County

The generosity of the people of Summit County never ceases to amaze us. A big thank you to those of you who supported our ‘Summit County Troops’ by making donations to the collection bins in the City Markets, Safeway, Walmart and Walgreens. Your kindness was much appreciated, as was the support provided by the stores.

Cash donations for mailing the packages, and to buy some extra goodies, were received by the Rotary Club of Summit County from citizens, which was wonderful. A number of businesses also provided support, including Wells Fargo Bank, Creative Angle Promotional Products, the Abbett Placer Inn, Advanced Dermatology, Comfort Dental and Dr. Karl Heggland’s Alpine OMS. A huge thank you to all.

Sixty-four packages were shipped off to Afghanistan and Iraq at the beginning of the month and will be with our brave young men for Christmas. A father recently wrote to say thank you and his words included the following, “My son said he gets more stuff than he can use, but the rest of the guys in the company have not been getting much, so when his boxes arrive, he takes a couple things out for himself and sets the boxes at the door of his tent and tells all the other soldiers in the company to come and pick things out. He said they are extremely grateful …and he is, too.”
