Tutus and twirls in Silverthorne

Special to the Daily/Silverthorne Recreation Center

The Silverthorne Recreation Center Dance program will hold its year-end dance recital Sunday at the Silverthorne Pavilion.

This annual recital will highlight the skills the students have honed over the year, and give the community a chance to come out and see the progress that has been made through a season of hard work by the students.

“Our dance recital highlights the talents of preschool, kindergarten and elementary school dancers,” said Jennifer Voxakis, head dance instructor. “They are the stars of the show. We also showcase our adult tap dancers.”

The Silverthorne Recreation Center’s dance program includes 73 participants, ranging in age from preschoolers to adults, who perform a variety of dance techniques including ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop. This year’s theme, “Home on the Range,” features costumes and music that will take you through a cowboy’s way of life.

The Silverthorne Recreation Center has a full lineup of summer classes for participants of all ages and experience levels. New this summer, check out Dance Camp, featuring hip-hop and ballet in a fun and funky way. Classes will feature various themes — some being held outside at Rainbow Park — water ballet in the pool and learning the new dance party fads.

“The dance program here at the recreation center has grown tremendously over the years, due in part to Jennifer’s passion for not only dance but her love for the kids, as well,” said Nancy Bomgardner, special event coordinator. “The kids just love her, and her dedication to teaching is apparent each time you enter one of her classrooms.”
