Two injured in Summit Cove wreck

Summit Daily/Brad Odekirk A Breckenridge man turned into the oncoming path of traffic on Highway 6 Monday morning at Swan Mountain Road. Although two were seriously injured in the wreck, all are expected to survive.

SUMMIT COVE – Two people – one from Breckenridge and another from Silverthorne – suffered serious injuries in a car wreck at the intersection of Swan Mountain Road and Highway 6 Monday morning.

Colorado State Patrol trooper Ryan Sullivan said Aquilino Lopez Bautista of Breckenridge was turning left off northbound Highway 6 onto Swan Mountain Road when he was struck by a Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by Jerry Hanson of Silverthorne.Sullivan said Bautista was at fault because Hanson had the right of way. Bautista was cited for careless driving causing injury and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Bautista’s passenger, Angeles Santiago, also of Breckenridge, was seriously injured in the wreck, suffering a broken leg and lacerations that will require surgery. Bautista suffered a minor leg injury and was released from medical care Monday afternoon. Hanson suffered a fractured arm.

The incident occurred so quickly, Hanson didn’t even have time to brake, Sullivan said, adding that Hanson is not suspected of speeding. The speed limit on that stretch of highway is 55 mph.
