Two local charities recognized by Outdoor Industry Association

Two local youth nonprofits with Vail roots were recognized among hundreds of other organizations by the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA).

First Descents, a nonprofit group dedicated to giving young cancer survivors a taste of outdoor adventure, was one of four winners of the OIA Outdoor Inspiration Awards presented by Adidas Outdoor. SOS Outreach, an Avon-based nonprofit dedicated to building character in youth through outdoor sports, was one of nine finalists. Hundreds of organizations, individuals and groups were nominated for the awards and winners and finalists were chosen by a panel of business and community leaders, said LaRae Marsik of the Outdoor Industry Association.

The winners will be recognized next week at the Outdoor Industry Association tradeshow in Salt Lake City.
