U.S. Forest Service to conduct pile burning in Breckenridge this week
Smoke could be visible from Interstate 70 and throughout Summit County

The U.S. Forest Service will conduct pile burning operations Friday, April 18, in Breckenridge, according to a news release.
The pile burnings are expected to take place at the Aspen Alley Trail/Boreas Pass Trailhead and at Ski Hill Road and Protector Circle, the release states. Ignitions are expected to begin around 10:45 a.m. and smoke and flames may be visible from Interstate 70, Colorado Highway 9, Breckenridge, Silverthorne, Dillon, Frisco and surrounding areas.
Fire management personnel will patrol ignition areas to monitor potential smoke impacts and fuel consumption, the release states. Monitoring will also occur periodically over the next few days until the piles are out.
The purpose of the pile burning is to help reduce fuel loading that occurred during hazard tree and wildfire hazard fuels reduction, according to the news release.
