U.S. Forest Service crews are set to conduct pile burning at Ruby Ranch in Silverthorne on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. Ignitions are set to begin at 10 a.m. and smoke and flames may be visible from Interstate 70, Colorado Highway 9, Breckenridge, Silverthorne, Dillon, Frisco and surrounding areas, according to a U.S. Forest Service press release.

The pile burning is currently set to proceed due to favorable conditions, the press release states, and piles will be allowed to burn and smolder overnight, unattended. Fire management personnel will be on-scene during daytime hours to monitor smoke impacts and fuel consumption. Monitoring will also occur periodically throughout the week until the piles are out.

The purpose of the pile burning is to help reduce fuel loading that occurred during hazard tree and wildlife hazard fuels reduction.
