Ullr Fest organizers call on local artists


BRECKENRIDGE – With only five months remaining until Breckenridge’s biggest winter carnival, the Ullr Fest design contest is under way.The week-long event pays homage to Ullr, the Norse god of snow, with celebrations such as the Ullympics, an Ullr bonfire, a bar series and a zany parade. This year’s event will be held from Jan. 7-14, 2005.Next season’s design theme is “Ullr – This Snow’s for You!” Artists must submit a concept sketch to the Breckenridge Resort Chamber (BRC) by Friday.Artists are asked to roughly tie-in their concept to the theme. Artwork can be submitted to the BRC office at 311 S. Ridge St. in Breckenridge or mailed to the Breckenridge Resort Chamber, Attn: Ken Miller, P.O. Box 1909 Breckenridge, CO 80424.The winner will be required to submit final art at a poster size of 14 inches by 17 inches by Aug. 23. The winner will receive a prize package worth more than $750, and their artwork will be displayed throughout Breckenridge.Past winners have included a cartoon-like superhero Ullr, a stoic face shot and a community picture with Ullr in the middle.
