United States rocks Sunsation

KIMBERLY NICOLETTI
summit daily news

Who: These United States

When: Sunday

Where: Sunsation Festival at Copper Mountain

Where’d the name come from? We travel a lot, all across this country, many times a year. Put 60,000 miles on our old Dodge van just last year. Guess it comes from all that back and forth, up and down – all the gorgeous sunsets out there.

Home base: The five of us live all over – a farm in Maryland, a house in Virginia, a studio in Kentucky.

Type of music: We play both kinds of music – rock and roll.

If your music were a tangible item, what would it be, and why? An old beat up Dodge van named the U.S.V. Heyoka. See above.

Why do people love ya? Because we keep it fresh.

How do you keep it fresh? By loving people.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve done/weirdest experience? Actually, appropriately enough, that’d probably have to be driving back and forth across the harrowing snowy mountain passes of Colorado all winter long. Didn’t think we were gonna make it outta this season all still in one piece – gets pretty hairy out there in the middle of the night, trailers jack-knifing all whichaways in front and behind. Figured we better take one more crack at it before we move on to summer.
