US 40 near Berthoud Pass reopen after snow slide

Sky-Hi News staff report

An avalanche closed two lanes of U.S. Highway 40 near the base of the north (west) side of Berthoud Pass near the entrance to Mary Jane ski area.

The westbound lane and one eastbound lane closed at about 12:45 p.m. due to snow piled up on the road.

Colorado Department of Transportation officials said the pass had to be closed completely for a short time in order to bring heavy equipment into the area to remove the snow.

CDOT reopened the pass at about 1:55 p.m.
