Use Dam Road spirit for other areas, too

It is inspiring to me that so many Summit Countians have demonstrated such passion, angst, action, opinion, pain and anger over the closing of a road. If only our very liberal county were so passionate about affordable housing, the pine beetle, food banks or alternative energy.

Rather than look at the closing of the dam road as a negative, we need to see the opportunity that exists! The Dam Road will open ” let’s face it, it will happen ” and once it does, we need to take the opportunity to close Swan Mountain Road permanently.

Drivers don’t like driving it due to the bends, and the bikers. Bikers don’t like the cars. We’ll save $15 million on a Rec path we won’t need to build. Close the road at Sapphire Point both ways, and turn the whole area into a recreation area!

We can use the money we won’t spend on the rec path for other worthy projects in the county. Put bus stops on each side and ride your bike to work for those who commute; trucks shouldn’t be on Swan Mountain anyway. I eagerly await those that have been “inconvenienced” by the Dam Road closure, eager to express their rights to entitlement.
