Use of mill levy funds must be fully explained

In response to Carly Wier’s Sept. 17 response to Darrel Parker’s Sept. 12 letter referencing the use of the continued mill levy extension to be voted on at the next election:

First, I am in complete agreement with Mr. Parker’s view. The use of the funds derived from continuation of the mill levy must be explained in greater detail, not just a wish list of possible uses.

Second, the key words in Wier’s article are “I am happy to share some information regarding specific recycling needs that could potentially be funded.”

The words “could potentially” are the problem. The money “could potentially” also be used to buy new mahogany office furniture for the county commissioners.

Unless the programs this money will be used for are clearly explained and justified, I will be voting against this proposal and encourage others to do the same. The taxpayers should be told where our money will be spent, not could potentially, or may.
