USFS plans burns in Wildernest today


SILVERTHORNE – U.S. Forest Service officials plan to burn piles of dead trees and branches near Buffalo and Ryan Gulch roads today and possibly later next week.The prescribed burns are weather dependent.This fall, the Forest Service cut dead trees and piled them up in preparation for burning. The program will reduce fuels near homes in the area and provide a defensible space to help firefighters combat wildfires. The Forest Service will burn other piles in the area throughout the winter.For additional information, contact the Dillon Ranger District at (970) 468-5400.- Daily News staff report
