AVON ” Chapter three has officially started in the Ryan and Trista story.

Ryan and Trista Sutter, the reality TV couple who first found love on ABC’s “The Bachelorette” in 2002 as the nation watched intensely, and who were then married on an ABC two-hour special in 2003, announced Wednesday that they are having a baby.

“It took quite a while,” Trista said Wednesday. “When you get married and decide you want to start a family, you hope the stars will align and it will happen right away. It took a little bit longer than we thought, but everything happens for a reason.”

Trista and Ryan, a Vail firefighter, have been trying for two years, she said. Trista is at 14 weeks, or in her second trimester. The baby is due in summer, and the couple is not going to find out the baby’s sex.

“I am a huge lover of surprises,” Trista said. “We just want to wait for that moment where the doctor tells us what it is. We hope during the ultra sound no one spills it.”

For the last two years, the couple has been thinking about names, mentally noting the cute ones they’ve come across while out in town.

“We want to use a family name for the middle name,” Trista said.

But other than that nugget, she’s keeping her lips sealed about the child’s namesake until it’s born. She doesn’t want to deal with any nasty media backlash like Gwyneth Paltrow had to deal with when having Capone.

Trista said she is not at all nervous about motherhood. Trista worked as a pediatric physical therapist in Miami for four years and said she is completely comfortable around babies.

“I love kids to death,” she said.

Ryan and Trista Sutter live in Wildridge. Sutter continues to work as a fireman in Vail and Trista runs an online boutique called B’s Purses. The couple’s house has been on the market for quite some time, and they are looking to move, she said, but most likely will stay in Colorado. And if they do move from the valley, it wouldn’t be forever, she said.

“Ryan has no plans to quit his job. If we moved, he would commute,” Trista said. “We are looking to sell, just for a change and haven’t been in a rush. I want to be in a new place before I get way too huge because it won’t be fun moving if I am way too pregnant.”

But for now, Trista said she’s just happy to finally share their secret and stop making silly excuses for skipping on the wine.

“We had some friends in town right after Christmas and they got a bottle of champagne,” Trista said. “I couldn’t say no and I figured one sip won’t hurt the baby.”
