Vail Resorts, Intrawest make lift ticket sales a difficult proposition

Joleen Meyer, Summit Resort Group - Silverthorne

This is a letter from the little guys – the local property management and rental companies – to the BIG GUYS, Vail Resorts and Intrawest.

To complement the experience and for the convenience of our guests every year, we sell lift tickets, for the BIG GUYS.

For us to be successful and, in turn, for the resorts to be successful, we cannot make mistakes and we cannot inconvenience the guest in completing their arrangements for a day on the slopes.

At every turn, the BIG GUYS foil our efforts by not releasing ticket prices to us in a timely fashion, changing prices after guests have been quoted, and releasing tickets with misquoted effective dates.

This pulling of our strings impacts our productivity and our bottom line.

However, none of this impacts them because they don’t face the guest, directly.

They need to remember that our success and our mutual guest’s satisfaction relates directly to all of our bottom lines.

If destination skier visits are dropping, I would anticipate they would be doing everything possible to assist us with selling their product, not so!

I feel certain that the employees who work directly with us are as frustrated as we are. So to the BIG GUYS from all the little guys, get your act together.

I would have loved to have called the person at Vail Resorts who deserved this tirade but he is off until after Christmas.
