Volunteers needed for Mt. Royal Trail work day

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

The Town of Frisco is partnering with the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District (FDRD) to adopt the Mt. Royal Trail, one of Frisco’s favorite US Forest Service hikes, south of town. The first volunteer maintenance date for upkeep on the Mt. Royal Trail is Saturday, June 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will help maintain the trail, including trail closure/restoration work in braided areas and water bars and check dams for erosion control efforts.Volunteers will meet in the dirt parking lot area at the south end of Frisco’s 2nd Street just beyond the bike path at 8:30 a.m. and should dress for a day outdoors – bring lunch, water, work gloves, layered clothing including long pants, long sleeved shirt, sturdy boots, sunglasses, sun hat, sunscreen, rain gear, and insect repellent, and lots of enthusiasm! All ability levels welcome. According to senior planner Jocelyn Mills, “User days on the White River National Forest are increasing, yet recreational funding on the national level is not keeping pace. FDRD efforts help reverse the declining conditions of our local National Forest lands that result from increasing users and decreasing federal funds.” The mission of FDRD is to promote stewardship of the White River National Forest in Summit County through partnerships, volunteer service, education and support. This effort is part of FDRD’s Forest Stewards Program Adopt-A-Trail initiative. Future Town of Frisco Adopt Projects on this trail include: July 21, Aug 25, and Sept 15. R.S.V.P.s are highly encouraged – contact Jocelyn Mills at (970) 668-9130 or jocelynm@townoffrisco.com to sign up or for more information.
