Von Trapp Children singers perform Saturday in Vail
Summit County, CO ColoradoBEAVER CREEK – The von Trapp Children present a concert experience that is imbued with decades of history and family pride. They bring their harmonies and folk rhythms to the Vilar Center stage Saturday as part of their farewell tour. “The Sound of Music” captured the hearts of millions and made a mark on musical history when the film debuted in 1965. Now, nearly 40 years later, the von Trapp’s legacy lives on in children Sofia, Melanie, Amanda and Justin. The great-grandchildren of Captain von Trapp, father of the famous singing family whose story was depicted in the movie, have breathed new life into their decades-old family musical tradition. The von Trapp Children perform a variety of folk and classical songs of European and American origin, as well as timeless pieces from “The Sound of Music.” The children’s effervescent voices mesh together the way only a family’s can.The family comes to the Vilar Center as part of their farewell tour, culminating a career in music which has taken them around the globe. Although they began in small venues, The von Trapp Children’s sell out crowds carried them into some of the world’s most prestigious theatres, including the Sydney Opera House and The Grand Ole Opry. Their world tour also took them to New Zealand, Korea, Japan, Austria and Belgium, to name a few. They have performed on national television shows like “Good Morning America,” “The View,” and “Martha Stewart Living.” The children have recently had eight performances with The Boston Pops sell out completely. Now, as they culminate their farewell tour, they have become the stars of their own movie. A documentary team is following the children to Beaver Creek, filming footage for a movie about the family and their musical legacy. The children will perform a free pre-performance concert preview on Friday at the Beaver Creek Lodge. This ‘sneak peak’ will be held in the Grand Bohemian Gallery at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for Saturday’s full performance at the Vilar Center are $38. Tickets are available by calling the Vilar Center Box Office at 845-TIXS (8497) or by visiting vilarcenter.org.
