Vote Kreamelmeyer and Bowers for school board

Deborah Hage - Silverthorne

John Kreamelmeyer and Bob Bowers would be much needed additions to the Summit School District School Board.

With the advent of the International Baccalaureate program at the high school, those students who want to excel academically can pursue the highest degree of excellence they are capable of.

Those students who wish to perform at more modest levels also have all of the programs, classes and teachers they need. What is lacking are programs for those students who are not college-bound, who need to take off their gown at graduation and immediately enter the workforce.

These students are actually in the majority and need classes, teachers and programs that give them the skills they need to get a job that pays a living wage.

Summit County used to have such vocational programs, and John Kreamelmeyer and Bob Bowers used to teach them. Currently, I volunteer in the high school six days a semester as a guest lecturer.

I routinely face classes where the English language skills of many of the students are so poor they do not know what I am saying.

They put their heads on their desk and go to sleep. Yet they have to go to class after class, biding their time until they can drop out. Because school is a waste of their time, they drop out with no skills or diploma and have difficulty getting jobs. The crowning blow comes when members of our community deride them for being lazy.

Kreamelmeyer and Bowers have the experience and expertise to help Summit County schools bring a much needed balance to the educational needs of all students at all grade levels without compromising the education of the college-bound.

Please support them with your vote Nov. 4.
