Vote Lou for mayor

Deborah Hage

Eighteen years ago my husband and I moved to Silverthorne with our family. At that time there was no Wal-Mart and no place else to buy reasonably priced clothes, shoes and school supplies for our children. We could not afford the ski area boutiques and didn’t have the resources to go down to Denver for everything. As much as a certain element in the county hated it, Wal-Mart was a blessing to us.

Silverthorne is now in the same position. As much as a certain element hates the thought of a Safeway and Target being located in Silverthorne, they have both become necessary. Silverthorne has become the home of most of the service population and minority populations in Summit County.

Many do not have cars. Those without cars find it difficult to shop by bus when they have to take their children along. Our residents, who work hard all week doing the county’s dirty work, should not have to spend precious hours busing to and from buying the necessities of life. To oppose these shopping opportunities is to oppose the needs of minorities and others who do not have the resources to live in the homes high on the hillsides or other areas.

Lou does listen to people. Just because he has not agreed with a vocal minority of non-residents does not mean he does not hear what they are saying. He just doesn’t always happen to agree with them.

Lou DelPiccolo has demonstrated over many years his concern for the quality of life for all residents of Silverthorne, not just those who don’t want to look down from their homes on a view spoiled by, heaven forbid, a Safeway. Lou will not allow people outside of Silverthorne to use their own narrow self interests to dictate to us what is best for us and all of our residents.
