VR joins military’s ‘America Supports You’
VAIL – Vail Resorts last week announced that the company joined the U.S. Department of Defense’s “America Supports You” campaign, a national program that showcases support to the Armed Forces. The ski company’s participation was announced Tuesday by chairman and chief executive officer Adam Aron.”Vail Resorts takes pride in its long-standing tradition of supporting the courageous men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, who have given so much to our country,” Aron said. “We want the brave men and women of the military to know that we are deeply grateful to the sacrifices they make each day on our behalf and that we continue to support them.”The “America Supports You” effort started last November. It chronicles an array of programs by companies and individuals in support of U.S. troops at home and abroad. As part of the program, Vail Resorts hosted 18 soldiers to learn to ski and snowboard from Feb. 24 through today, who are recuperating from the loss of a limb. The event marks the second annual Vail Veterans’ Ski Weekend.Soldiers participated in two all-day private lessons through Vail’s adaptive ski program, which helps those with disabilities to enjoy snow sports.Over the years, Vail Resorts has offered several programs to benefit military personnel. The company’s Keystone Ski Resort became a preferred recreation provider of the U.S. military in 2001 with its “Rocky Mountain Blue” program, which offers discounts on lodging, recreation and conference gatherings to military and Department of Defense employees.Last spring, Vail Resorts created a program known as “Operation Freedom Lodging,” when the company’s resorts of Breckenridge and Keystone offered returning troops from Iraq and Afghanistan 1,000 complimentary room nights. The demand was so overwhelming that the company decided to extend the program and gave away nearly 2,000 room nights. To learn more about “America Supports You” and read stories of Americans supporting the troops, visit http://www.AmericanSupportsYou.mil.
