We need to provide another way off this mountain

I am in favor of an option that provides alternate access to Wildernest. I have owned a home in Wildernest for eight years.

Fire danger is a realistic concern in Wildernest. Have you taken note of the forest debris during your hikes through the pristine wilderness? With fuel like that, how quickly do you think a fire would destroy all or part of this mountain and neighborhood?

How quickly can this neighborhood be evacuated in an emergency given the existing options to drive out of here? We are living on a tinderbox.

A few years ago, there was a fire at the Silverheels building a few days before Christmas. I drove home during the day.

It took two and a half hours to drive from Silverthorne to my home – about halfway up – and back to Silverthorne. Imagine if there were a reason to panic or a sense of urgency.

That day, I made my forest fire escape plan: Run downhill.

If businessmen in Frisco have the means to implement an alternative road for any reason, I have one word – welcome!

It goes without saying that a route with minimal impact on the environment, as well as a cost-efficient plan, would be ideal.

I realize some people are concerned the alternate road leading to Frisco threatens businesses in the towns of Dillon and Silverthorne. Their time would be best spent competing, rather than complaining.
