Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my first blog posting. A blog is short for a web log. In regular talk, it looks like a column to me, but it can be updated 24/7 and we can get into discussions through readers comments.

So, let’s look at it as a column on steroids.

I hope everybody got to read the story today about whether Breckenridge’s Ullr Fest parade should be sanitized.

I have to give the town council credit for holding out for the parade’s bad boy and bad girl image.

At the same time, I understand Police Chief Rick Holman’s worry about the party-hearty sensibility of it all. I have a 14-year-old daughter entering high school and believe me, we worry about booze and alcohol.

At home, we try to show responsibility while not hiding the fact we enjoy a cocktail. We also offer sips so there’s no mystery about booze that she feels she must go out and explore.

Still, the Ullr Fest parade and bonfire are adult events and probably should be billed as such. Maybe a PG-13 rating should suffice.

Then again, these are the kids tuning into VH-1, MTV and even the suggestive Disney Channel.

What’s the Ullr Fest parade have on that stuff?
