I-70 westbound reopens following 7-vehicle crash

A 7-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 resulted in an extended closure between Copper Mountain and Vail Pass Wednesday, June 18.

2:20 p.m.: Interstate 70 westbound reopened around 2:15 p.m.

12:15 p.m.: A seven-vehicle crash near mile marker 188 has shut down westbound Interstate 70 between Copper Mountain and Vail Pass, according to Trooper Hunter Mathews, a public information officer with Colorado State Patrol.

One of the vehicles involved is a semi, while another is a box truck, Mathews said, and two people have been transported to a hospital.



The shutdown is expected to be an extended closure, according to Colorado State Patrol.

Traffic is being detoured south on Colorado Highway 91 to U.S. Highway 24.



Original story: Westbound Interstate 70 is closed between Exit 195 and Exit 190, due to a multi-vehicle crash, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

There is no estimated time of reopening at this time.
