Western Slope wildfire grows to 213 acres
September 24, 2012
NEW CASTLE – A wildfire burning in the Flat Tops mountain range has scorched 213 acres and prompted the precautionary evacuation of a campground and nearby roads.
KMGH-TV reports Monday that fire officials say scattered beetle kill timber in the remote area are making it difficult to fight the fire. About 100 firefighters are battling the blaze that started Thursday.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Meadow Lake Campground and side roads east of the Buford Newcastle Road at Hiner Spring about 10 miles north of New Castle have been evacuated as a precaution.
