What about saving water in the county?

Interesting idea County Commissioner Gary Lindstrom had about high mountain reservoirs. But nowhere in his March 13 column did he mention any possible solutions for conserving our water in Summit County, or for better use of the water we have.

I’d like to see a better understanding of how building more reservoirs is going to ease the water problem. It’s time that government in Summit County stopped proposing more building – of any kind – as a solution to any of our problems.

The problem is that Summit County government doesn’t know how to do anything but support continued growth. The existing trend has reached its peak, and continued building is not going to solve any problems – it will only create more.

When is the concept of sustainability going to reach our local leaders? Of course, reversing the growth trend would mean most in the real estate and construction industries would be out of work, and that would be a sizable portion of the Summit County workforce.

If Summit County continues to build with nothing more than speculation and debt fueling the machine, we’ll all be in worse shape down the road then we are now.
