Jared McGary used to drive intoxicated folks around at Keystone, but now he serves up drinks in Breckenridge.McGary has lived in Summit County for seven years. He moved here after living in Arizona for a couple of years and growing up in Shreveport, La. He moved up here to snowboard and started working at Keystone driving a bus during the night shift.”It wasn’t bad … I just drove around in circles all night shuttling drunks around,” he said. “People would try to tip you to do donuts.”

After working there for four years, he moved into the food and beverage arena. Now he’s been doing banquets for Vail Resorts in Breckenridge for a year.”I like food and beverage a little more,” he said.

McGary sets up, serves and bartends for the banquets. Occasionally, when bartending, he’ll get the request for specific shots he doesn’t know how to make, but otherwise, he said, the job is pretty stress-free. When it comes to his own drinks, though, he keeps it simple – just straight liquor.”I hate mixing it up,” he joked. He enjoys working for food and beverage also because it allows him a fairly flexible schedule.

“It’s really busy in the summer and slows down in the winter, so I still get to snowboard a lot,” he said. Although many who move here only stay a short while, McGary may buck the norm.”I like it up here,” he said. “I definitely see myself up here for a while.”
