Why can’t we all just get along? More on vehicles versus bicyclists

Jeffrey Bergeron, aka Biff America, Breckenridge

I think I’ve found a solution to the bicycle versus motorist conflict that has been featured in the letters to the editor of the Summit Daily News.

William Pitcher, you won’t have to face a head-on collision with an RV as it passes a bike rider and as a result end up dead or in the intensive care ward.

Jerry Wilson, I also have good news for you.

There will be no need to follow through on your threat that if there ever comes a time where you have to choose between running into an oncoming motor vehicle or crashing into a bicyclist (which would more than likely seriously injure or kill the bike rider), you will hit the rider.

I’m confident that neither of those scenarios will come to pass. The reason is: As a result of the civil and rational dialogue that has been aired in this newspaper, I believe all of us (bicyclists, motorists, and pedestrians) will slow down, behave courteously and treat each other with respect.

If we all agree to do this, no one has to die.

I hope that helped.
