Why does Frisco need ‘brand essence?’

RE: Frisco considers image consultant (SDN March 9)What in the world does Frisco need with a “brand essence?” Frisco already has $220,000 of our money in its budget for marketing and communication, and now wants $49,000 more to study Frisco’s image? Both seem an awful lot of money for what? Frisco is a wonderful town of people who live, visit, work and play here. They, not the town government, are the essence and image of Frisco. They also pay the taxes to fund such matters as mentioned above. Do the people really want to pay for this?Mayor Zurbriggen on his website asks how we can build consensus. We already have a consensus building process: It’s called “elections.” You know: Periodically, candidates run for mayor and town council; they promise to do things to make the town better; the people consider, vote for their choices and elect on that basis; the winners take office to fulfill their promises. Voila! Consensus! Why does a small town of only 3,000 souls need a manager who hires consultants at huge public expense to come up with a plan which gets put to a vote on a referendum that usually loses? Here comes another election next month.Let’s put the already established process to work.
