Wildfires mostly contained, heat continues

DENVER ” Although Denver is approaching a record number of days with 90 degree heat, it is only slightly above average.

Bernie Meier of the National Weather Service says the average temperature for Denver in July is 89.

The Denver record is 18 straight days with temperatures in the 90s. It was set in 1874 and matched again in 1901. Both stretches came in July.

Meanwhile, despite signs that monsoons might arrive early so far the flow has only reached the southwestern part of the state. Meier said major rains from the monsoon aren’t likely before August.
