Two days of pig races, live music, cooking and, of course, a lot of barbecue culminated in the awards ceremony for the 22nd annual Colorado BBQ Challenge in Frisco on the Viking Kitchen Stage on Saturday, June 20. During the ceremony, the town of Frisco was also honored with an award from the Kansas City Barbecue Society, naming the Colorado BBQ Challenge a “Legacy Contest,” recognizing 20-plus years of barbecue-competition excellence.

“It is an extraordinary honor for us to be recognized by the KCBS in this way,” said Nora Gilbertson, Frisco events manager. “We feel proud to be a part of their family and the extended family of cookers who make their way to Frisco each year to cook world-class barbecue in our mountain town.”

This Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event attracts more than 70 teams from across the country to compete for top honors as the best barbecue masters in the Rocky Mountains. Winners of the Colorado BBQ Challenge in Frisco are eligible to compete in the American Royal, the World Series of Barbecue.

Save the date for the 23rd annual Colorado BBQ Challenge, which will be held in Frisco on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18, 2016, with a kick-off concert on Thursday, June 16.
