Winners of speech contest present to Optimists

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

Twenty fifth-graders throughout Summit County participated in the annual Fifth Grade Oratorical Contest sponsored by the Summit-Lake Dillon Optimist Club. Twelve finalists were selected by judges to compete in the final awards. Finalists included Melissa Chumbley, Madison Grosshuesch, Ashley Harding, Sarah Johnson, Emily Birch Jones, Katie Jones, Kelly Joyce, Paul McSparin, Troy Meeker, Paige Olson, Drew Peterson and Kimberly Snyder.The finalist judges selected three girls and three boys as this year’s top winners. For the girls, Melissa Chumbley was the first place winner, Paige Olson in second and Kelly Joyce third. On the boy’s side, Paul McSparin took first place, Drew Peterson second and Troy Meeker third.The winners and their parents were guests of the Optimist Club at its regular meeting on Dec. 1. Students presented their speeches as the special program for the meeting.
