Winter Senior Games kick off in Keystone and Frisco

SUMMIT COUNTY The Colorado Winter Senior Games will be held this weekend in Summit County. The two-day events starts this evening with a spaghetti dinner and fundraiser held at the Summit County Community and Senior Center near Frisco.The Winter Senior Games are part of the National Senior Games Association, a not-for-profit member of the United State Olympic Committee dedicated to motivating senior men and women to lead healthy lifestyles through the senior games movement.The NSGA supports and sanctions these member state organizations giving adults the opportunity to participate in their state, in events year-round that will keep them motivated to achieve greater value and quality of life by staying healthy, active and fit.Events on tap for the games include speedskating, figure skating, hockey, alpine ski racing, obstacle courses, Nordic skiing, biathlon, relay races, snowball throw and snowshoe races. All of the events will take place at Keystone Ski Resort and the Frisco Nordic Center on Monday and Tuesday.The games are designed for Colorado athletes ages 50 and older. The event will start off with ice skating at the Keystone Ice Rink, Monday morning. Followed by the alpine skiing events at the NASTAR courses on Keystones flying dutchman and spring dipper runs.
