Winter weather advisory in effect in Summit County until Dec. 30

Snow and cold weather will help usher in 2025 in Summit County this week, according to National Weather Service forecasts.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for areas above 9000 feet in Summit County from 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29 until 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30. Snow accumulations between 4-10 inches are expected along with winds gusting as high as 65 miles per hour, the advisory states.
Temperatures will remain low on Monday, with a high of 25 and a low of 1, according to the National Weather Service. Snow remains in the forecast in Summit County until Friday, Jan. 3, which is currently forecast to be mostly sunny. Tuesday, Dec. 31 — New Year’s Eve — is expected to see a high of 26 and a low of -1 with a 40% chance of snow. Wednesday, Jan. 1 is expected to see a high of 30 and a low of 15 with a 20% chance of snow, growing to a 60% chance Wednesday night.
An avalanche warning was also issued by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center at 3 p.m. Sunday, according to an advisory relayed by the National Weather Service. The advisory applies to portions of the Front Range including the Never Summer Range, the mountains near Berthoud Pass, Loveland Pass and the Summit County mountains. That warning is currently set to end Monday afternoon, according to the advisory.
“Travel in backcountry avalanche terrain is not recommended in the mentioned areas on Sunday and Monday. Avoid travel on and under slopes steeper than about 30 degrees. You can find more detailed information at Colorado.gov/avalanche,” the advisory states.
