Witnesses report seeing armed man in Boulder County hiking area

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) – Authorities in Boulder Country are investigating a report that an armed man confronted a man and woman hiking in the foothills over the weekend.

A 32-year-old woman form Fort Collins and a 44-year-old man from Berthoud reported that a man fired one shot and tied them to trees on Saturday near Nederland’s Rainbow Lakes.

Authorities say the man freed himself, ran to a populated area and telephoned authorities. Officials say the assailant released the woman, who was found at the car the couple left beside a road.

The man suffered bruised wrists and a leg cut. The woman was unharmed.

Sheriff’s Commander Rick Brough says other people have since reported seeing a man with a rifle in the area but said he didn’t appear to be doing anything illegal.
