Woman convicted of taping dog to fridge

BOULDER – A former University of Colorado student has been convicted of felony animal cruelty for taping her boyfriend’s 2-year-old dog to a refrigerator.

A jury took about two hours Tuesday to convict 21-year-old Abby Toll. Police responding to a domestic violence call last April found the dog hanging upside down in packing tape on the fridge.

Prosecutor Lisa Pearson said Toll used hair ties and packing tape to bind the dog’s snout and legs before taping him to the refrigerator.

Defense attorney George Kokus said Toll was under the control of her boyfriend and didn’t have the state of mind to knowingly torture the dog.

Toll could receive probation or up to 18 months in jail when sentenced May 28.
