Woman dies in I-70 wreck

SUMMIT COUNTY – A woman died of massive trauma Saturday evening when her Camaro collided with a semi truck on westbound Interstate 70 between the two runaway truck ramps at mile-marker 209.

The woman’s identity will not be known until her next of kin are notified.

“I don’t know how it happened,” said Lake Dillon Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Berino. “There were skid marks all over the place. I can’t even begin to guess. They were westbound (past the Eisenhower Tunnel), going into the sun … we have had some accidents of that nature where people are blinded. But that’s purely speculation.”

The car, bearing Colorado license plates, was totalled. The semi suffered minor damage; the truck driver was not hurt in the incident.

Colorado State Patrol officers closed one lane of the highway to conduct an investigation.
